下線付きの"bread and butter"とは、どういう意味でしょう。直訳すると、「パンとバッター」です。ちょうど今日本でもバッターが売り切れ状態ですよね。しかし、「パンとバッター」ではダメで、正確には
「バター付きパン」のこと。展開すれば基本的な食べ物を指す英熟語で、その延長線に「生計」を意味する言葉です。この記事でいう"bread and butter issues"とは、まさに（国民の基本的な）生活問題を指すものです。
